What is a panic attack?

A panic attack is a rush of intense anxiety and physical symptoms.
They can be frightening and happen suddenly, often for no clear reason.

Are you having panic attacks?

Our founder Marcus suffered from panic attacks from the age of 9! This developed into panic disorder and eventually agoraphobia by the age of 18. So we know a thing or two how crippling panic attacks can be.

After many years of searching, trying different ways to conquer his disorder including support group, counsellors, mental help, countless therapists and even hypnosis for answers, Marcus eventually found none of this was working. He found his own methods which now he passes on to others. Marcus truly believes everyone is unique and what works for one will not necessarily work for another. Because he has genuine empathy and cares, you will not find a better therapist to free you from the daily struggles.

Signs of a panic attack

You may experience:

– What feels like an irregular or racing heartbeat (palpitations)
– Sweating
– Trembling

– Shortness of breath (hyperventilation)
– A choking sensation
– Nausea
– Dizziness
– Tingling fingers
– Ringing in your ears
– Can’t swallow easily

Some people think they are having a heart attack because it feels like their heart is beating fast or irregularly, or even that they are going to die. Panic attacks usually last from around 5 to 20 minutes. Although it may feel like something is seriously wrong, they aren’t dangerous and shouldn’t harm you.

You won’t usually need to be admitted to hospital if you have had a panic attack.

What causes panic attacks?

The physical symptoms of a panic attack are caused by your body going into “fight or flight” mode.

As your body tries to take in more oxygen, your breathing quickens. Your body also releases hormones, such as adrenaline, causing your heart to beat faster and your muscles to tense. In single terms we describe a panic attack as you are having a abnormal reaction to a rational task.
